Preparing to install laminate flooring

When preparing to install laminate flooring you should fist remove any old carpet or other type flooring material.  Then remove all base boards and carpet tack strips.  Next Sweep up and debris( dirt, bits of concrete, etc).  Next make sure you do not have any nails left in the walls from the base board removal.  This will cause problems later on. Now that you have cleaned and removed all obstacles, you can begin to lay out the barrier pad. When you unroll the pad their will be a side with a plastic film on one side. This is the side that goes down, this is the moister barrier.  Their will also be an edge that has no padding this edge goes to the inside of the room so that your next piece of pad can overlap the moister barrier.  Now cut to fit up against the walls. You may have corners to go around , so just cut to fit as best as you can. You can lay out one section of padding and begin to lay your flooring or go ahead and cover the whole room with padding first. If you cover the room first don't forget to tape the seams down, this makes sure their is no openings for moister to come through the barrier.  Now you are ready to lay your flooring. Next post will be " Door jams and thresholds".
